Mental Health

Mental Illness Types, Symptoms, and Diagnosis

Hi everyone, I am back and just want to take the time out to talk about mental health and how it can affect you all around. Since March, I have been truly focusing on mental health and finding a comfortable zin place. I have my days, where this can be slightly rough especially since I can be considered a late night person now and sporadically overthink and analyze things. It’s a little hard to fall asleep early some days, but I am working through them. Music is very meditating and although it has always been my escape- I am finding other ways to help keep me in a calm comfortable space.

I can truly say, I have been very active and do it at least once a day. My now daily thing is going on a bike ride with my brother and/or doing yoga in the house. It keeps me stable and allows me to find my comfort zone. I am reading more as well so my brain is in overkill some days. Some days I fall asleep early and some days I don’t since I am not tired, engrossed in a book or watching a good show on TV.

I am saying this to simply say, we have to make sure that we are in a good mental headspace day to day. Find what makes you happy, workout and eat right and just find your inner happy place. If you have to distance yourself for a little bit in order to figure things out, then do so. This does not mean completely go incognito- but give yourself some me time. Put your phone on DND or turn it off. Listen to music, write, draw or color. Just make sure you are in a complete calm space.

As the days so go by, it will start to come natural and you will be able to do it without putting much thought into it. I am speaking from experience. I do not have a mental disorder but I think we all have moments where it might seem like it. We should start looking for the signs that show something is off and take the time out to focus on our mental health. If needed find someone you can talk to about these things and/or consider looking for additional professional health. Everyone be safe and enjoy your day!

Take a Leap of Faith

I would like to take the time out first and foremost to send virtual hugs to everyone who has lost some one during this pandemic. It is very unforunate. I hope you are reminiscing on all the good memories you have had with your loved ones. I know your time of bereavement may not be the best and some days you might go through the motions and/or maybe it has not fully hit you yet. What I can say to that is just stay positive and think about all the opportunities you have now.

I know some people may think nothing will be the same and to an extent it could be true. I personally want to focus on everyone using the rest of their days to do something that makes them happy. If you have been doubting yourself or battling the pros and cons, just go for it. You will not know the outcome until you are on a journey towards your goals.

This pandemic has proved to us time and time again that like is short. This pandemic has proved that everything can change in a blink of an eye. There is nothing we can do besides go with the motions. Yes, I am practicing what I am preaching. I have made the initial steps into things and opportunities that before I either overlooked or thought about the what-ifs. I am openly taking the punches as they come and working towards my ultimate goals in life. Just keep going no matter what.

Some can be done over night and some takes time and has multiple steps; but whatever it is go with your heart and make the best of it. I have a few friends who decided they wanted to enroll back in school to complete their Associates and Bachelors Degree and then there is me who is putting things in motion to go back for my Masters.

Just take a leap of faith, your end goals shall overlook all the obstacles it took to get to the finish line.

School Randomness

I have not been in school in almost a year and decided this morning I was going to look at my mock trial case and re-read it and do a opening and closing statement. To be honest, it was difficult. It literally took me about 5 hours to do so, which is shocking. I felt inexperienced and completely like it was my first time looking at it.

I commend everyone going to school and working full-time. I used to do it and last year I only had class 2 days with my internship and work the rest of the week. I guess I am outdated a little but sheesh I wanted to get that feeling again.

I am looking into going back to school for my Masters so I wanted to take a leap of faith. Honestly, I need to do an hour or two a day to fully prepare myself again. Patience is a virtue right now. But on a positive side, I did finish it and emailed it to my old professor just to see what his thoughts were on it so I can improve on it for the future.

Finger crossed I do not have to do major editing on it. I just enjoy the fact that we are still in contact and touch base on cases he is currently doing with his students.

Stress Free

The goal right now is to try to live a stress free lifestyle. With everything going on and how day to day interactions are at a pause and everyone’s health is up and down. We must stay positive.

Yes, I know it is easier said then done but we have to at least make the right steps to put this in motion. Work on yourself before suggesting something to someone else. We have to practice what we preach or we are considered hypocrites.

Everyone just breathe in and out, think or write down your goals and start putting things in order. We can determine our future. At this day and age we have the power. Walk into your future step by and step. I promise you won’t regret it.

Do not let anyone’s negative thoughts impact your future. Sometimes people say things because they do not want to go the extra mile to better themselves. They are considered the crabs in the barrel. Do whatever will make you happy. Go back to school if that’s what you really want. You can take classes to change your career path. Be your biggest supporter and take a leap of faith.

Update

Honestly, these last two weeks have been rough. I have not read the book since the first day. I had 3 deaths in the family last week and then yesterday a long time friend of the family passed as well.

As I get out of my head I will be on this more. My mind is all over the place so bear with me. Everyone stay safe and take care.

Today’s Recap 4.15.2020

I want to give a big thank you to everyone who is considered Essential Workers and to say although it might not seems like it we appreciate you guys.

I have witnessed first hand that people are nasty out here and the disrespect is not necessary. Today, was one of those days I dreaded. Waiting in line for the supermarket for about 15-20 minutes and then before I realized I was headed back home close to 2 hours later. The lines were extremely long and products was still being stocked.

Any other day I would understand the frustrations for asking for an item and it not being there or asking if it would be in stock soon but with the current pandemic we are going through I didn’t think it was the right time and a bit insensitive to the workers. They are risking their health daily so we can be able to get the items needed to survive as well. So to be hostile and disrespectful was uncalled for.

I know I am speaking about the supermarket currently but I want to broaden my open appreciation to EVERYONE WORKING. This is not to subjected to any field in particular because honestly there any many people considered that were looked down upon prior to this. I appreciate you guys and I wish you and your family the best. Everyone please safe and do everything in your power to stay well.

The Straw that broke the camel’s back

I wanted to post well write this earlier in the day (really yesterday since it’s already Monday) but I wanted to gather my thoughts before writing on impulse.

We have heads the phrase so many times. At least I have and I couldn’t really put it into my personal context until today. I had an out of body experience and felt like the ”bomb” that was dropped was my final standing. So many times we are brought up on being supportive and following through with things that we put our personal stuff on pause.

Personally, this must stop. I am guilty of this. I consider myself to be a perfectionist that wears her heart on her sleeves. During this quarantine I have been through some trials and have been to myself to figure things out. I have used the time to strategize and process things.

But I also have been hit with some rough things. Yes, I have been bouncing back but this last one is not looking that way. The straw that broke the camel’s (my) back.

I will stay positive and pray. Meditate and isolate.

Quarantine Chronicles 1

When I first thought about being stuck at home for quarantine, I honestly thought I was going to be bored. Yes, I know for our own good they want us to practice social distancing and only go out for a small amount of fresh air/ exercise and to do a quick essential shopping at the businesses that are still open.

To be honest, I used the time to think things through I would normally push away. I had time to analyze things from a different perspective and also rebrand myself. I am sitting on many different talents and I needed the time to sit back and strategize how to make them happen.

Within the next couple of days I will be posting more things for people to read, my venting thoughts and also promoting people that others are unaware of. So please stay on the look out there is more to come.

Incognito

Hi everyone, I have been incognito for about a week or two. It’s life. I just been trying to process things and map things out. I would like to take a moment to tell everyone that going incognito is good for the soul. No one can tell you how to cope and if they do not agree just agree to disagree, because it is pointless to argue.

I had people tell me that it’s good to vent to people you trust because they are your support system and although I agree with that, sometimes you have to take yourself away from everything and strategize everything as if only you are present. Some would say this is unhealthy but in my opinion it is super healthy because at the end of the day you are all you really have.

Friends come and go and family, well family is here and there. They come around when it is convenient for them and/or they might need help and you are the go to person. But what I learned over the last year or so is friends and family needs to check in on the people that are the sane ones and the ones who everyone comes to; because although they are silent and seem to have everything under control they do not. They put on a façade.

I know for me personally I do speak about my dilemmas but I also try to work through them and not too many people know. I am a chicken without a head sometimes and taking myself away from people that can be described as toxic is my goal. I have to find away to solve all my problems and break the chains that are keeping in a tight situation. It is a long journey but I will not give up until I accomplish that. So I will be in and out of incognito and go on random hiatus to make sure that I am good.

Racism

So I was asked why do I still firmly talk about racism and read about racism; and my honest answer was because we are still going through racism. Yes, it might not be an intense as it was back then but we are still dealing with. No matter what people say or do, racism is still a justification they use against us. Us, being the minorities.

I am a die hard bookworm. I love to read and sometimes I think my choice of books make people uncomfortable. I can speak eloquently on subjects that the average person would probably look over. Oh well. I am going to continue to read and speak on racism because it is a strong factor in everything. People still view minorities as criminals, they still clutch their bag as if we are going to rob them and lastly they think we are uneducated.

I have read articles where people truly believe that racism is a figment of our imagination. My first reaction was: you cannot be serious right now. After everything that was documented and everything that we have learned in school and research as we got older; you really believe that racism is not real. How is that even possible?

Yes, racism is different with children and different in general in this present day. Children do not see color or race. They see another young face and will interact. In children, yes they are not born with the knowledge and concept of racism. This is a learned trait from adults around them, body language & actions among people of the opposite race. But how do you explain why your child might be considered “racist” as they grow up?

People fail to realize when you turn your lip up at the next person, people are witnessing this. People are using that and running with it. You are also lose people, even in your inner circle. No one wants someone around them that are going to be judgmental towards them or someone they know because they are the opposite race of you. No one is superior than the next and this is the problem.

Back then Whites thought they were superior to Blacks. Fine, we cannot write history from the past but we can change our future and create a path you would want your children to live and thrive in. Every race has qualities to do great in this world. No one can change how you are. But in order to grow we must leave racism alone. We must find something to justify something. We must learn to accept everyone for who they are and not for the color of their skin. We must leave in the past all the “judgements” your grandmas, great grandmas and anyone us from that era and allow the future to speak for itself.

I say this to say, racism is not a figment of our imagination. Racism is still actively present and no matter what we say only we can change that. Statistics have proved that it is slowly changing but even then we need to do better. We need to change and just love everyone for who they are. Agree to disagree but be respectful that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and will do things based on their beliefs. Your beliefs and opinions do not outshine mine. We can all shine bright in this world. There is nothing but space and opportunities available to us to be the best we can be.

Lets take this journey and make it happen because actions speak louder than words.
